Differentiation, with respect

The download here is a short piece on ‘differentiation’. This was inspired by a chat in an entrance lobby with Mark Schofield and Jill Taylor, then a walk around Leeds shops in the autumn sunshine. I hope mathematically-inclined readers will like the piece, but that it still makes sense to everyone else. Incidentally, the 2nd edition of ‘Making Learning Happen’ (which explores in depth the seven factors mentioned in the piece here) went off to Sage yesterday, to appear next year. “What can I do when….?”

I’ve been collecting questions about teaching in higher education from members of a variety of web lists. The only rule is that they had to start with ‘what can I do when…?’. I’ve now written brief answers to a selection of these questions, to go into the 2nd edition of ‘Making Learning Happen’, now scheduled to appear in May 2010. You may be interested in a selection of nearly 200 of the questions, in random order, which shows some interesting trends regarding problems we face teaching in higher education nowadays. 'What can I do when' questions (306)
