As I explained, there was some common ground (the seven factors) but also different things at the different workshops, responding to matters arising from the respective participants. It was good working with you all. Aalborg 2012 (24)

Newcastle University; NTF Regional Meeting: 3rd May

Sally and I (mainly Sally) included a presentation on ‘How to bring about change in Universities’, and the slides are here for anyone interested. Newcastle University: 3rd May (23). Thanks to everyone for organising the day.

There’s excellent practice around at UWE.

Updated ‘ripples model’
I’ve updated the PowerPoint file which shows the development of the ‘ripples model’ of learning, with some new slides added. Now it should download more easily, directly as a PowerPoint file, without the hassle of zipped folders, as my website software no longer needs these. Ripples model seven factors (14397). This is written up as Chapter 2 of the 2nd (2010) edition of ‘Making Learning Happen’. If you would like to book me to go through this live at your institution, please email me.
Reflecting on your teaching
I keep playing with a checklist to use before and after a teaching element, and here’s the latest version. I’m now able to put up Word files directly, saving all the messing with zipped folders. Do let me know what you think of this, so I can improve it. I know it’s too long, but I thought it best for colleagues to edit it down. Reflective Checklist 2012 (393)
‘How to do Uni’
What key advice is needed by 6th-formers and others preparing to start University? I’ve added a page of brief suggestions to the ‘for students’ part of this website, accessible using the link at the right-hand side. I’m particularly looking for feedback on these suggestions, and (even better) for more ideas to go there.

I was very impressed with your draft assignments on helping 6th formers to prepare for University – so you inspired me to have a go to produce a simple one-pager with the same mission, which you can download here: How to do Uni (84). I was also very heartened by some feedback from you which Kay sent on to me – you can see that here too feedback (86).
University of Manchester: 20th February

I look forward to visiting Northumbria again next week, this time working with 140 students on learning.
New Mobile Number – and availability in March 2012
I now have a new mobile phone (an iPhone which I like a lot), with a new number, so my old number is now extinct. If you need my new number, please email me for it on phil@phil-race.co.uk
I also now have some availability in March should anyone want me, due to our trip to Australia being rearranged due to family circumstances.

Great to be in Galway again. Here are the slides which I used in the various sessions I ran on these two days, in PowerPoint 2007 files in zipped folders. PhD at your fingertips (104). Finally, here are the slides for the two PG Cert sessions. The first session on Tuesday involved participants from the University of Iceland by videolink as well as Galway participants, and the second session on Wednesday was with 16 Galway participants. As always, I did slightly different things with the two groups, so these slides are ‘cumulative’ and in a different order, so look carefully for the slides you didn’t see at your session. Great working with you all, I have really enjoyed my visit to Galway. Smarter Assessment (107).
